This past weekend, Yo-Yo Ma brought his Bach Project, which uses the composer's 300-year-old music to explore connections between cultures, to the sister cities of Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. He believes the music has an ability to connect cultures and humanity from all walks of life.

"I've lived my life at the borders. Between cultures. Between disciplines. Between musics. Between generations," he said.

Ma also delivered Americans for the Arts and Arts Action Fund's 26th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy in 2013.
