This morning, the Obama Administration released its Fiscal Year 2012 federal government budget and priorities. The Administration has proposed reducing funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to $146.255 million, which is a $21 million cut.
While the Administration’s budget recommendation that was released today is for FY 2012, it may have an influence on the FY 2011 Continuing Resolution (CR) budget that Congress is currently negotiating. Last week, the House of Representatives proposed allocating $144 million in the FY2011 appropriations CR package for the remainder of the year, but this bill must still go to the floor this week and then to the Senate. We expect a series of floor amendments in the House that will attempt to zero-out funding for the arts. That’s why we’re asking everyone to go to our E-Advocacy Center to send emails to their Members of Congress urging them to reject these cuts.
