Bomba & Plena In the House - Celebrating Latinidad! (Creative Conversations 2011)

East Harlem cultural arts institution and international touring ensemble, Los Pleneros de la 21 is proud to announce the kick-off event of their Bomba & Plena In the House (ITH) series as part of National Arts Month!

ITH was created in 2007 to increase and stimulate access of quality and educational cultural arts programming for NYC schools, students and learners of arts by hosting monthly engaging performance/lectures of engaging and interactive performances that showcase the versatility and passion behind cultural traditions of the Caribbean and across communities of the African-Diaspora.

Each In the House session, hosted in Los Pleneros' own backyard--the culturally vibrant East Harlem neighborhood-- features members of Los Pleneros master musicians and performing artists as well as creative workers from other exciting performing ensembles. Performances take students, teachers and general audience members on a musical and dance journey that teaches history, musical knowledge and community affirmation through the traditional music, most specifically Puerto Rican Bomba and Plena. Audience members witness energetic performance, participate on stage with artists. Activities culminate in special Question and Answer sessions with the artists!

To commemorarte the 5th anniversary of In the House, this special kick-off event features the LP21 ensemble, and other special guests to give a taste of the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora!

Two performance dates will be offered, 10 am and 12 noon.

Admission is $5, special group rates are offered! Contact for more information: 212-427-5221, pleneros21@gmail.com
