Americans for the Arts Action Fund Remembers the Honorable Louise Slaughter

Posted on: Apr 20, 2018

On Wednesday, April 18, the Americans for the Arts Action Fund joined Americans for the Arts in remembering our dear friend and fierce arts advocate, Louise M. Slaughter. Throughout the day, various events on Capitol Hill commemorated Representative Slaughter and her life-long work to support the arts, especially as Co-Chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus for over twenty years.

Tony Award Winner and former member of the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities John Lloyd Young, accompanied by Grammy-nominated music producer, composer, songwriter, singer, and arranger Tommy Faragher, sang at the official memorial service held in Statuary Hall that afternoon. Later that evening, Americans for the Arts hosted a special reception in conjunction with the Congressional Arts Caucus in the U.S. Capitol as a celebration of Louise’s life in the arts. Members of Congress, guests, and Louise's family memebers gathered together to remember Louise's amazing life of service, and John and Tommy performed a dedicated musical tribute.

We owe so much to Louise, who truely worked to make the world a better place through the arts.
